Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

IASTM is a therapeutic technique utilised in physical therapy and rehabilitation practices. It involves the use of specialised tools, typically made of metal or hard plastic, to diagnose and treat soft tissue dysfunction. These tools have various shapes and edges designed to apply controlled pressure and friction to targeted areas of the body.

During an IASTM session, the therapist applies the tool to the patient's skin while simultaneously manipulating the tissue underneath. The goal is to break up scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions, which can develop as a result of injury, overuse, or poor posture. By applying precise pressure and friction, IASTM aims to promote blood flow, improve tissue mobility, and reduce pain and inflammation.

IASTM is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for conditions such as tendinitis, muscle strains, ligament sprains, and other soft tissue injuries. It can be particularly beneficial for athletes looking to enhance performance, individuals recovering from surgery, or anyone experiencing chronic pain or limited range of motion.
