Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is a therapeutic method that utilises a specialised elastic tape to support and stabilise muscles and joints while allowing for a full range of motion. Unlike traditional athletic taping, which primarily restricts movement, kinesiology tape is designed to mimic the elasticity of human skin, allowing for comfortable wear and dynamic support.

The tape is applied directly to the skin over the affected area in specific patterns and with varying levels of tension, depending on the desired therapeutic outcome. The unique adhesive properties of the tape enable it to adhere to the skin for several days, even during physical activity and showering.

Why Do I Want It?

The primary goals of kinesiology taping include:

  1. Pain Relief: By providing gentle support to muscles and joints, kinesiology tape can help alleviate pain associated with musculoskeletal injuries, overuse conditions, and inflammatory conditions.

  2. Facilitation of Movement: The elastic properties of the tape can enhance proprioception (the body's awareness of its position in space) and promote more efficient movement patterns, leading to improved athletic performance and functional outcomes.

  3. Swelling Reduction: When applied with appropriate tension, kinesiology tape can create a lifting effect on the skin, which may help facilitate lymphatic drainage and reduce localised swelling and oedema.

  4. Postural Correction: By strategically applying the tape to specific muscle groups, kinesiology taping can help encourage proper alignment and posture, reducing strain on muscles and joints and promoting optimal biomechanics.
